How to choose a printer and print wisely

I think we agree: It's hard to find companies that aren't committed to sustainability. This is reflected in green purchasing policies and green KPIs.

Your green bottom line: Remember the overlooked internal and external factors

There is typically a strong focus on factors such as raw materials for production or transportation - but have you thought about how your marketing materials affect the green bottom line? Do you know what your business partners stand for and how it affects you and your business?

To meet your environmental goals, it's not only important for you to look within your own organization. It's just as essential to look outwards and find the right partners who can make a positive contribution to greening the value chain and supporting your sustainability goals.

Myth #1: Print kills the forest

Maybe you're thinking - like many others: "Isn't it true that the forest dies when you make printed matter?" Fortunately, the answer is no. It's just a myth. Danish printers use paper from responsible European forestry. At the same time, European forests grow every year by an area equivalent to 1.5 times the size of Funen.

Myth #2: Digital print is best for the environment

Intuitively, many of us think it's best to focus on the digital versions of brochures, leaflets, catalogs and other printed matter - that it's probably best for the climate.

BUT there are no scientific studies to suggest this: there is no evidence that your digital screen editions are any better for the environment than your traditional paper printed matter.

Myth #3: Printed matter can't be recycled

"Printed matter is not recyclable": We hear this objection all the time. Fortunately, it's not true: printed matter is biodegradable and compostable. As long as you sort the paper, you can recycle it up to 25 times.

Printed with responsibility? Printed at Johnsen.

We at Johnsen take our social and environmental responsibility seriously. Both for society, our workplace, suppliers and customers. As a workplace, we ensure that every component in the value chain follows the guidelines, procedures and processes that make us an environmentally conscious and responsible company.

Based on the graphic industry's CSR code of conduct, developed by Grakom and HK/Privat and based on the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact, we make sure to demonstrate social responsibility. The 10 principles form the basis for our actions.

Our efforts in these areas have resulted in us being awarded the EWII wind energy purchase certificate, which is only possible if 100% of electricity consumption is covered by renewable power. We are also ISO-14001 certified - and have been awarded the FSC and Nordic Ecolabel.
