ESG

ESG = Environment, Social and Governance.

Businesses today are faced with increasing sustainability expectations from customers, suppliers and partners - as well as from legal requirements and various public authorities.

Therefore, it is crucial that each company can account for its actions and document its products' impact on the climate.

At Johnsen, we have already come a long way with the transition - and with documentation. This is where ESG comes into the picture and helps us to work in a structured and targeted way in this area.

ESG - what does it mean?

ESG stands for Environment, Social and Governance; which can be simplified to focus areas that revolve around the environment, social conditions and corporate culture.

Get insight into Johnsen's approach to the three areas below.

Environment

The many environmental and climate-related aspects such as biodiversity, CO2 emissions, waste management and recycling, etc.

From rooftop solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot, our own biodiversity garden, and 100 percent climate-friendly electricity from offshore wind turbines to FSC®-certified paper produced with minimal impact on forests and compliance with a wide range of stringent climate certifications.

E

Social

The working environment for employees at Johnsen is an area we continuously optimize. Well-being, health and well-being are inextricably linked to safety and proper conditions - both physical and mental. So we work with it on several fronts.

For example, everyone has access to health insurance and first aid courses. We've made changes that have reduced noise levels in production and phased out the use of chemicals that employees could be exposed to.

S

Governance

Corporate culture covers everything from good ethical behavior and tone of voice to compliance with various laws and regulations. As well as good business conduct. Here too, we want full transparency.

We are open about our board, management structures and decision-making processes - and have a whistleblower scheme, so that any attempts at unethical behavior, bribery, discrimination and the like can be stopped and reported.

G

Certifications Strengthen Documentation

Our certifications ensure that you have a well-documented framework for our printed materials:

  • Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope, Version 5.0 brings together requirements for materials, circularity, climate, and social conditions.

  • The Nordic Swan Ecolabel provides recognized documentation of requirements regarding paper, chemicals, energy, recyclability, and workplace conditions.

  • FSC® documents the traceability of forest-based materials.

  • ClimateCalc provides comparable climate calculations for print and packaging products.

  • ISO 14001 demonstrates that our environmental efforts are grounded in objectives, processes, audits, and continuous improvement.

For you, this means a stronger and more practical foundation for procurement, due diligence, Scope 3, and ESG documentation.

Case Studies That Translate ESG Into Customer Value

Green Power Denmark

With a “ Cradle to Cradle ” Certified® print solution, Green Power Denmark gained a stronger foundation of documentation for its member magazine, *Naturlig Energi*.

“The decision was not about whether to use pressure or not, but about using pressure with greater transparency and a more solid basis for documentation.”

Søstrene Grene

A shared marketing portal enables more than 420 stores across 19 markets to order promotional and point-of-sale materials on their own.

“The portal has freed up time and resources and made the process more flexible, efficient, and scalable.”

ZeroWaste

In collaboration with the Danish Technological Institute and Kvadrat Really, we are investigating how leftover banner material can be turned into new materials and products.

“Waste materials should be given a new lease on life as a valuable resource instead of ending up as trash.”
