FSC® is your guarantee of responsible forest management

Green seal of approval with the FSC label

FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council®. FSC promotes responsible forest management and ensures that no more trees are cut down than the FSC forest itself can reproduce - for example in the production of printed matter.

When you work with an FSC® certified partner, you show that you share responsibility for the future of forests. The materials you use come from a responsible and traceable source. This strengthens your green profile and credibility.

Johnsen is a member of FSC; so we can influence the development of responsible forestry. We also want to influence the important political decisions in the area - because they matter to us all.

We offer printed matter that meets the standard for FSC REUSE and FSC MIX (elaborated below).

3 FSC labels

The FSC label appears mainly on paper and packaging. FSC-certified companies are assigned their own traceable numbers. You can find them together with the green FSC label.

FSC Recycling

Used where all forest-based parts of the product are made from recycled materials (post- and/or pre-consumer recycled).

FSC Mix

Used for forest-based parts such as paper when made from a combination of materials from FSC certified forests, recycled material and controlled wood (FSC Controlled Wood). Controlled wood can be sourced from non-certified forests, but this reduces the risk of unacceptable conditions.

FSC 100%

Used on products where all forest-based materials (e.g. wood) originate from FSC-certified forests.

Our FSC certification benefits you

As a responsible graphic company, we are proud of our two FSC certifications - FSC REUSE and FSC MIX - because they contribute to better forest management around the globe.

We almost exclusively offer printing materials that meet FSC social and biodiversity standards: 90% of our printing paper is FSC-certified, primarily using FSC MIX

Even though the demand for FSC RECYCLING is still limited, we also have that certification. We hope and believe that the future is moving more and more in that direction.

When you order print from us, you can get the green FSC label on the paper. This gives you visibility in the market and proof of concrete, measurable and result-generating initiatives that benefit forests.

Our goal is to use 100% FSC-approved paper. We always strive to get better - step by step.

Where FSC creates value for your business

By choosing FSC-certified products, companies and consumers support biodiversity, responsible forestry, forest conservation and workers' rights. FSC products and materials add value in at least four areas:

Protecting endangered species

With FSC-certified paper for your printed matter, you protect biodiversity. You also ensure that the rules for responsible forest management are respected.

As part of CSR

FSC can be included as part of your company's CSR strategy and assessed according to how you use natural resources in your daily work.

Visibility and trust

The FSC label on your products signals that you have made an active choice to prioritize the environment. It can strengthen customer confidence in your business.

Access to new markets

The FSC label can open doors to new audiences demanding responsibly produced products and materials.

The connection between FSC & the UN Sustainable Development Goals 15

FSC also plays a role in relation to UN Sustainable Development Goal number 15, which is about protecting, restoring and supporting more sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.

Target 15.2 in particular is relevant to FSC as it focuses on promoting responsible forest management and stopping deforestation.

At Johnsen, we support FSC by actively participating internally in FSC Week every year and celebrating FSC anniversaries. Our goal is to raise consumer awareness and encourage consumers to choose FSC-approved products.
