For the environment to win, we must fight for it - So that's what we do

When you choose magazines, flags, leaflets or other printed matter from the GreenPrint by Johnsen product line, environmental considerations play a big role.

Printed matter under this line has achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze; one of the world's most demanding environmental certifications - tracking and documenting everything about each product from raw materials to processing, working conditions, environmental impact during production, distribution, use and recycling/reuse or final disposal.

The Graphic Industry Code of Conduct is based on an adapted version of the UN Global Compact's 10 principles - which we follow to the letter.

The result is that our focus areas remain specific and relevant to the way we do business - and help our customers. To boil it down to one word, in our view, CSR is about decency. We stand up for that.

Our goal is - always - to take maximum responsibility throughout the value chain. Also to keep everything safe and controlled.

To achieve this goal, we believe that the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals are the best solution for setting a credible, concrete and thorough direction.

In practice, we focus specifically on five of the goals because they are areas where we can make an active contribution and make a difference. This is the best way to contribute to our common future - for the environment, the planet and us humans.

As a member of the UN Global Compact, Johnsen supports the world's largest targeted initiative where business supports human rights, labor rights, environmental protection and anti-corruption.

Our position is clear:

In today's Denmark - and in the global community - we as a company must contribute to concrete, measurable and positive change. While at the same time running a good, healthy business. And good business sense requires good, responsible business operations.

Do you know what the EWII wind energy purchase certificate means in practice? To be awarded this certificate, the company's entire electricity consumption - 100 percent - must be covered by renewable electricity from wind turbines, solar cells and hydropower.

This is of course ambitious, but all our facilities in Grenaa have actually achieved this certification.

Renewable energy has long been a focal point for us. Since 2013, the electricity consumption in our production facilities has been based on wind energy, and since 2024 also on solar energy.

Intentions to improve are a good start - but evidence of action always trumps. And since we set high standards for our work, also on the environmental side, we go for verifiable measures - for example in the form of certifications.

You need to be able to look us in the eye. And you can. In fact, we encourage you to check out our various certifications - precisely because they spell out exactly what we do and how.

Find out why we are ISO 14001 certified; offer printed matter with both FSC and Nordic Swan Ecolabel and more; and why we are certified by EWII in relation to electricity consumption and wind turbine power.

When you choose FSC-labeled paper, you can do so with a clear conscience. The international non-profit certification scheme for wood and paper ensures that both animal and plant life in the forests are protected. Furthermore, people working in FSC-certified forests are guaranteed training, safety equipment, decent working conditions and a fair wage.

FSC also guarantees that no more wood is ever harvested than the forest itself can reproduce. Therefore, there is no net loss of trees in FSC forests.

By choosing products with the recognized Nordic Swan Ecolabel, you contribute significantly to environmental protection. The purpose of the label is to promote a healthier environment, including the working environment.

Johnsen is certified under license version 5.1, which covers printing, printed matter, envelopes and other refined paper products. This involves the use of responsibly produced paper and vegetable-based, water-based inks. We recycle paper from printed matter and reduce paper waste and other waste. We also limit the carbon footprint by using renewable energy sources in the production of printed matter.

ESG stands for Environment, Social and Governance. Today, businesses face increasing demands for sustainability from customers, suppliers, business partners, legislation and public authorities.

That's why it's important that companies can account for their sustainability initiatives and document the actual footprint of their products.

At Johnsen, we are already well on our way with the transition and documentation. ESG helps us work in a structured and targeted way in this area.

We have expanded the green areas at Bakkehegnet in Grenaa with many new plantings. Most of our 'streamlined' hedges have been removed to make way for beautiful and varied flowers that act as natural magnets for bees and insects.

To extend the period of buzz and life, we have sown seeds from different plants that flower at different times of the year.

On the roof we have created a biodiversity garden - and installed solar panels to power the print shop. The garden attracts many bees - and we plan to install beehives so we can offer our own honey to our guests and customers.
