The UN SDGs won't cross the finish line
by themselves

An ambitious plan requires will and effort to succeed. See Johnsen's contribution here

The overarching intent of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals is to end hunger, poverty and inequality in the world - while ensuring decent jobs, education and better health for all.

The 17 SDGs in total will help us do just that.

At Johnsen, we can make an obvious difference in five of these areas in particular. Therefore, we focus on Health and well-being (SDG 3); Clean water and sanitation (6); Decent work and economic growth (8); Responsible consumption and production (12); and Climate action (13).

Focus on 5 global goals

Health and well-being - SDG 3

We prioritize the health and well-being of our employees. That's why everyone has access to health insurance. At the same time, we have invested in first aid training and installed a defibrillator at our head office in Grenaa. We have also already reduced noise levels and improved the working environment through remodeling, including the installation of chemical-free CTP systems and new production equipment.

Clean water and sanitation - SDG 6

We work purposefully and persistently to make our water consumption more efficient - and minimize waste.

Through investments in modern production equipment, we have significantly reduced water consumption in our printed matter production. In fact, the majority of our products can now be produced entirely without the use of water.

Decent jobs and economic growth - SDG 8

We will gradually and continuously strengthen sustainable economic growth; ensure a proper working environment, high well-being and economic security for our employees; and support the local community.

That's why we also follow the Graphic CSR Code of Conduct and sponsor Kulturhuset in Grenaa, Team Rynkeby and a number of local sports associations.

Responsible consumption and production - SDG 12

Increasing overconsumption in the world is putting a worrying strain on the earth's resources. That's why we need to work together to find solutions that make consumption more sustainable. And it's urgent.

At Johnsen, we monitor resource consumption systematically to minimize waste as much as possible. We achieve this, for example, through recurring annual audits from external bodies; so we maintain a constant optimization of processes and resource consumption.

We keep a close eye on the consumption of resources such as paper, IPA alcohol, energy and water-based paint.

Climate action - SDG 13

We advise customers on progressively more climate-friendly solutions - from material selection to packaging and distribution - as we have extensive experience in the field and are constantly updated on new opportunities.

Our entire production facility runs on 100% renewable electricity from Nordic offshore wind turbines and solar panels on our own roof.

By 2030, all our cars will be electric - and several charging stations have already been installed in our parking lots; for both guests and employees.

Our business partners also play a major role in climate action. That's why we place high demands on them, for example in terms of raw materials. We prefer partners who also have an environmental management system and support the recognized ecolabels in the graphic industry.

The connection between UN SDG 15 & FSC

UN Sustainable Development Goal number 15 also plays a role in relation to FSC and forest conservation. This SDG is about protecting, restoring and supporting more responsible use of terrestrial ecosystems.

Target 15.2 in particular is relevant to FSC as it focuses on promoting responsible forest management and stopping deforestation.

At Johnsen, we support FSC by actively participating internally in FSC Week every year and celebrating FSC anniversaries. Our goal is to raise consumer awareness and encourage consumers to choose FSC-approved products.
